Diary October/November 2017

Unless otherwise stated all activities are held in Dove Cottage, 39 High Street, Debenham (just inside St. Mary’s churchyard). Please note that there is a waiting list to join the Fit Club and the Cross Green lunch clubs are also full. However we can accommodate just a few more participants in our other clubs and activities.

Please note that meetings that would be normally held in Dove Cottage between October 30th and November 10th have had to be cancelled due to the refurbishment of the kitchen. Additionally, if the work overruns the meetings on November 14th may also have to be cancelled.

Tuesday 3rd October at 10.30am:

Fit Club

This is about making life easier for all who may be “over 60” and, perhaps, just “a bit stiff in the joints” or “a bit out of puff”. What a difference can be made with some simple exercises that we can do whilst sitting in a chair – removing stress, reducing pain, improving posture, balance and coordination, and so on. It’s gentle and fun - not at all about “no gain without pain” – and you can do it at home - less of the gym and more of the lounge!

Tuesday October 3rd at 2.00pm:

CAMEO

Tea and fun activities – games and quizzes for the mind and the body - try it - you can join in or just have a chat – and enjoy homemade cakes “just like Mum’s”.

Wednesday 4th October at 2.00pm:

Carers Club

There will be tea or coffee and the largest slices and the greatest selection of luscious cakes in Suffolk for all. It’s just like an afternoon tea party and the cakes are stupendous! I look forward to seeing you all there, and please remember that everyone is welcome and especially past carers. If you need some information or advice we can usually help.

Way Back When

Everyone enjoys a good old natter about the old days and there is something special about bringing back memories. Enjoy remembering with friends what you did in the 40s, 50s, and 60s - enjoy talking about the hobbies and activities that you loved with others who also enjoyed them -  hear about what Debenham and the surrounding villages was like all those years ago and tell us what it was like where you grew up.

* We have 3 Food ‘n’ Friends lunch clubs – each meeting every month. These offer an opportunity for a carer with the person they care for to enjoy an informal lunch where they can relax and enjoy meeting others without any concerns – everyone is aware of the difficulties that carers face and is more than happy to help and to share. They are usually held in a host’s home and are small in their membership – 4, 6, or 8 guests. Our current clubs are full at present and we are currently thinking about setting up a 4th club in the coming year – if you feel that this is something you might like to try, either as a guest or as a host/helper, please let us know as soon as possible (01728 862003).

The Forge Church in collaboration with the United Reform Church also organise a luncheon group for elderly housebound residents in and around the Debenham Area. They can provide transport and meet at 12.30 on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month (01449 710437).

ActivLives has runs weekly New Age Kurling and Boccia sessions which are open to all but, particularly, those who may be a little older than the rest of us, have a few aches and pains, and sometimes find a few problems remembering what happened yesterday but not what happened in their early years. The sessions are on Thursdays at the Debenham community Centre – 2.00 to 4.00pm – Contact Kim Bilner on 01473 345350.
